The monthly antiques market/flea market with its 500 exhibitors and about 100 little shops open all year round during the first weekend of the month, is, since 1968, an added incentive to visit this art-laden city of Arezzo--right in the heart of Tuscany. The antique market takes advantage of the extraordinary scenery of Piazza San Francesco, Piazza Grande, and the Logge del Vasari. The stalls spread over the cobbled-stone side alleys and squares across the historical center, with a backdrop of ancient stone buildings. The influx of Italians and tourists alike, filling the streets of the bustling open-air market, transform the character of the city for the two days of the antique market/flea market.

Coming to Milan May 1 - October 31, 2015 is the Universal Exposition with the central theme: Feeding the Planet, Energy for Life. During your trip to Italy you can visit the world. Over this six-month period, Milan will host 140 countries to showcase and discuss solutions that guarantee healthy, safe and sufficient food for everyone, while respecting the Planet and its equilibrium. Visitors will have the opportunity to learn about, and taste, the world's best dishes, while discovering gastronomic traditions and agriculture of each exhibiting country. Who better to invite the world to discuss and share food and sustainable agricultural practices than Italy? Imagine relaxing poolside with a view of the Tuscan countryside. Rolling hills of olive groves. Warm Tuscan sunshine. A beautiful 5-bedroom, luxury Italian country home, with plenty of space for a large group of friends or family. A short walk to a family-run organic farm where you purchase your seasonal fruits and vegetables for the evening's dinner outside on the veranda. Just minutes away, down from your quiet, private residence, is the historic walled village of Monte San Savino.
If this is your dream, then Podere Meraviglia is your destination. Contact me, your Tuscany Consultant to book your stay and plan your vacation. The exhibition 'Andy Warhol - Forever' contains more than 100 works--both creative and biographical--from the private collection of Rosini Gutmam. Where can you experience this fantastic collection? Right here in Arezzo--the central heart of Tuscany--until the 10th of May at the Galleria Comunale di Arte Contemporanea in Piazza San Francesco.
Imagine driving through the winding Italian countryside with the ancient walled city of Cortona high on the hillside above. You enter through a private gate and you are home. Your private Italian luxury awaits at Casa Bacanella. Dine al fresco on your veranda overlooking the charming Tuscan garden. Relax with a great book or good conversation in the comfortable, beautifully furnished living areas. Cook like an Italian or I'll help you hire a private chef; either way, the kitchen is well equipped and perfect for your stay.

Visit Arezzo in the Spring and I will take you on a picnic you won't forget. Picnics are a favorite pastime of Italians when the weather starts to warm and the ground is dry. We will walk to pick up a delicious lunch from the local favorite artisan sandwich shop, Pannini & Co, and make our way to Petrarca, a sprawling park in the courtyard of the Duomo and just beyond Piazza Grande.
Imagine yourself enjoying an Italian picnic in Petrarca: we can take in the beautiful views of Arezzo, soak in the warm Tuscan sunshine, listen to the church bells, and watch from a distance while local children play a game of soccer. To one side of us the ancient steeple of the Cathedral, to the other, the ancient stone walls of the Fortezza. We lounge comfortably on the sprawling lawn at the base of the exquisite monument of Francesco Petrarca - Arezzo's own famous Italian classical poet and philosopher. Nicknamed the Father of Humanism, Francesco Petrarca's philosophy helped spark the Renaissance. Here in Italy at Easter time, the shop windows fill with elaborately designed chocolate eggs. There are eggs as large as 1 ft tall, and most are hollow with a beautifully wrapped gift inside, including toys for children, and fun things for adults too (sunglasses, jewelry, collectibles.)
Ahhh, but here in Arezzo, we have our very own Vestri Cioccolato--an artisanal chocolate producer who grows their own cocoa at their plantation, Santo Domingo. When you visit Arezzo at Easter, I will take you to Vestri Cioccolato, where you can bring your own gift and have a custom egg made. Why I'll never stop being proud to be Italian : this video is about Italy. All of the things you already know and love, and some that may surprise you. Come see us soon! |
